Nippo's new project

Right. Done with my time on Pistonheads I think, and starting a new season on Ebay for missing parts!

As some of you know, I have been looking for an air cooled 911 for some time... well today I just went for one! I have the V5, a set of keys and two files full of history, while the car will be collected by the body specialist later in the week and I won't get to drive it for a couple of months at least.

She's a 1976 RHD 2.7, born ice green metallic, and later resprayed (badly) in guards red.

Good points:

61000 miles

Previous owner (for ten years) always maintained the car at Autofarm and Tuthills. Work includes S cams, chain tensioners upgrade, new gearbox, new clutch, new kidney bowls and new brakes.

Bad points:

It's had a colour change in 1992, then some badly done wing repair which is not holding up. Will need two new wings and some attention to the drivers' b-post

Missing tool set

Badly worn steering wheel leather - either to be redone or changed in favour of a black classic Nardi

Anyway, after a bit of haggling I was able to buy it, for a price that will comfortably allow the budget for a proper glass out bare metal restoration - which means the car is going to spend the winter in the body shop and come out next spring in ice green metallic. Not purely in the interest of being true to its history - I must admit the colour has grown on me!

Quite an eclectic mix of vehicles in your stable now.

I do like the old 911s and yet strangely the modern variants leave me cold. This one looks like the kind of car I lusted after in my youth.

Don't forget the before and after photos. :music-smiley-005: :music-smiley-005:

Fantastic! I knew from our chat yesterday that this would be 'the one'! :Dancing-Chilli:

As well as the before and after piccys, it would be great to see lots of 'work in progress' photos too :music-smiley-005:

Congrats mate - excellent stuff :music-smiley-005:

Congrats mate - that seems to be a great object for that hind of restauration :)

Looking very much forward to the "before and after" pics - and as Janitor says, if you have the possibility some "work in progress" photos would have been both interesting and fun :Dancing-Chilli:

Great project, I hope the bare metal doesnt reveal any nasty surprises.

Looking forward to seeing the ongoing restoration in pictures. :Dancing-Chilli::)
