Hmmm yeah good points - i'm sure similar discussions will be going on somewhere in F1 along these lines right now.

The sports safety standards to be fair have been elevated to a superb level on the whole though haven't they and you are right we do tend to forget that, but then I guess something like this does unravel a potential over sight which does at least need review ............ building site refugee as a recovery vehicle is a good description and to say F1 is the pinnacle of motor racing, they do seam a tad under looked !

See what gets said this weekend then at Russia.

Latest update on JB condition is here:  http://www.bbc.co.uk...rmula1/29521187

It says that he has suffered a diffuse axonal injury and there's info on that here: http://en.wikipedia....e_axonal_injury

The doctors will monitor the pressure in his head and if/when that stabilises they will reduce his anaesthetic and simply see if he wakes up and go from there.

It does sound bleak but there's no way, especially this early on, of accurately predicting the outcome.

Can someone clarify, was there a full course yellow (safety car) before Bianchi went off?

I thought there was, but looking at the speed of Bianchi's impact I am not so sure now.

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

No, the safety car was not deployed for the recovery of Sutil's car.

Bianchi went off under double yellow flags and from the race control telemetry it looks like he was accelerating through the Dunlop Curve.  He enters the double yellow sector at approx 140kph and is travelling at approx 200kph when he goes off.   Where the speed is shown on the telemetry at least two other drivers go through, after Bianchi is off, at greater speed.

IIRC the reaction from race control to Bianchi's crash was to red flag the race.  Then the safety car followed the medical car out of the pits.

My understanding is as above too.

There was no safety car, just waved yellows.
